Welcome to INFP BPD

IMG_0045.PNG I hope to connect to a community of people who are dealing with the battle of mental illness. I believe it's important to talk about our struggles to hopefully help someone not feel alone.

My name is Ajani, Aj for short, and I have Borderline Personality Disorder. I am also an INFP personality type.

BPD (Borderline personality disorder) is a mental illness marked by an ongoing pattern of varying moods, self-image, and behavior. These symptoms often result in impulsive actions and problems in relationships. People with borderline personality disorder may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that can last from a few hours to days. ¹

I'm not bipolar. That is something different. I do have issues managing my emotions properly and sometimes I react in an unhealthy way attempting to deal with the negative feelings of loneliness or abandonment.

INFP (introversion, intuition, feeling, perception) is one of sixteen personality types used by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Idealistic, loyal to their values and to people who are important to them. INFPS want an external life that is congruent with their values. Curious, quick to see possibilities, they can be catalysts for implementing ideas. They seek to understand people and to help them fulfill their potential. Adaptable, flexible, and accepting unless a value is threatened.²

I'm not anti-social, but pretty close. I like being with myself and those who I know. I'm creative and come off as shy. Being around people for too long is draining. But I do like connecting with people and try to see the best in them.

These acronyms are not all I am, but they help me understand my strengths and my weaknesses so that I can better understand myself. As someone with BPD, I feel lost in my own skin sometimes. Having these labels means there are others like me, and it's impossible to feel alone.

If there are people who feel the way I do, who think they way I do, have the same issues as me; then it's possible and important to come together and support each other.
